Introduction
Linen is one of those trends that I have watched slowly grow.
First, it was dress shirts in 2022, then dress pants in 2023, and now full-scale linen everything for Summer 2024.
And, I'm glad.
Macro culture has been obsessed with escapism, consuming runways driven by styles that are avant-garde, unrealistic, or cartoony.
However, this season, Fashion Designers drew inspiration from nature and oceanic tranquility, with pants being looser, colors being lighter, and linen being everywhere.
No joke, my FYP has been FLOODED with linen everything.

For men, I saw camp collar linen shirts in white and beige, worn with a tight tank top, straight-legged pleated pants, and sandals.

For women, I saw loose-fitting linen dresses and blazers that were made to project beauty without sacrificing comfort, a core value of this season.
Overall, I think this trend had a lot of market relevance and did a good job of making its customers feel fashionable without being too confusing.
Is Linen Here to Stay?
No.
Like most trends, I think Linen will travel down from its middle-class home into the clearance racks of discount retailers.
However, I wonder how long it’s going to take for it to fall out of style.
Fashion consumers who like to stay in the know are going to quickly ditch Linen to make room for heavier fabrics this fall.
But, for the less trend-obsessed customer, I think that Linen will linger for a while which, I have no problem with.
If you prioritize comfort when getting dressed go for it!

Neutral linen basics can be core staples when used right, and I hope that they make those who are boxed out of wearing in-fashion clothing because of its fabric feel like they have a seat at the table.
Linen may soon be falling out of fashion, but that doesn't mean you have to throw it away.

While I love clothing for constantly changing, I think there's value in comfort being here to stay in categories that aren't athleisure.
If you value comfort and don't want to sacrifice style, Linen is a great choice.
And we have Summer 2024 to thank for that.
Conclusion
This summer brought great themes to the fashion market.
Through linen, Fashion Designers were able to a feed culture that valued travel and reconnecting with the natural world.
I’ve enjoyed this brief moment in Fashion and am thankful for all that it has brought.
I hope you feel the same.
PS: If you have any red in your closet, be sure to dig it up before this fall, you’ll thank me later. ❤️🖤
